Jul 22, 7:39 PM

Dawn (Guest): 1. What does it mean that Mary did not live, but Jesus lived in her? Is this pious language? What does this mean?

Jul 22, 7:42 PM

Judy (Guest): St. Paul said that he lived not he, but Christ lived in him. How much more can she, who gave human life to the Savior of the world, say that she did not live but that her son lived in her. St. Alphonsus said:Oh true God, how much more really had the sacred virgin and her son but one soul, one heart , and one life, so that this heavenly mother living, lived not her, but her son lived in her.

Jul 22, 7:43 PM

Ruth (Guest): Hello Dawn and Judy. Glad you are here. Sorry I am late again.

Jul 22, 7:43 PM

Dawn (Guest): Hi Ruth, happy you are here!

Jul 22, 7:44 PM

Judy (Guest): I think this means that their union was so close, so intimate, that Mary virtually ceased to exist ( see how little she is mentioned in the Gospels) and her life was poured into and absorbed by Jesus.

Jul 22, 7:46 PM

Judy (Guest): It is a really difficult concept around which to wrap one’s brain. It goes beyond the realm of human understanding.

Jul 22, 7:47 PM

Judy (Guest): Yes. Although the symptoms are the same, they are different. But I don’t know how. Maybe Ruth does.

Jul 22, 7:47 PM

Dawn (Guest): reading what you wrote about Mary and Jesus, it is mystical, a mystery, a beautiful one

Jul 22, 7:50 PM

Ruth (Guest): I have trouble with taking the expressions about no longer living as anything but symbolic or pious or a way of expressing one’s feelings.

Jul 22, 7:51 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 2: Jesus’ suffering was certainly make greater in seeing how His mother suffered because of His suffering. How often have mothers said that they would gladly take the suffering of the sick child upon themselves, father than watch the child suffer. The mother, as it were, suffers twice in the witness of the suffering of the child which then becomes her own suffering.

Jul 22, 7:52 PM

Judy (Guest): Made greater.

Jul 22, 7:52 PM

Judy (Guest): RAther than watch.

Jul 22, 7:53 PM

Ruth (Guest): Mary lived and she lived longer than Jesus. People who love one another a great deal may literally die very close in time to one another and it may be an effect of grief.

Jul 22, 7:54 PM

Dawn (Guest): Mary knew who Jesus was, and what was foretold. this to me can not be compared excatly with any mother who sees her child suffer

Jul 22, 7:55 PM

Judy (Guest): How many times have we read in the news about a husband dying one day and his wife, the next day!

Jul 22, 7:55 PM

Ruth (Guest): Voodoo and similar means of cursing others may literally harm or even kill others who believe that it can a Medical Mission Sister told me. She lived and worked in Zaire.

Jul 22, 7:55 PM

Dawn (Guest): I have witnessed many times this, one spouse then few weeks later the other

Jul 22, 7:57 PM

Dawn (Guest): yes, Ruth, satan is a living being and does have power esp over those who do not stay very close to Jesus . we can see the world today to understand this

Jul 22, 7:58 PM

Ruth (Guest): Love really does bind people together. That is why we can hope that our small sacrifices can do GOOD – in the larger scheme of things – at least when united to Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross..

Jul 22, 7:58 PM

Judy (Guest): Even though Mary knew who Jesus was and what was foretold about Him, that does not mean that she suffered any less in witnessing His suffering. If one knows in advance that a loved one is dying, does that make it any easier for him or her to watch the loved one suffer? I don’t think so.

Jul 22, 7:59 PM

Ruth (Guest): Of course not. That is not, what you meant, Dawn, is it.

Jul 22, 8:01 PM

Ruth (Guest): ? And even though Mary held the words about her Son, the WORD of GOD, in her heart, she only gradually came to understand what they meant.

Jul 22, 8:01 PM

Ruth (Guest): Think about the young Jesus asking,Mother, did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business.

Jul 22, 8:03 PM

Ruth (Guest): It must not have been easy raising a Divine Child – even one growing in Wisdom and Grace and being obedient to his earthly parents.

Jul 22, 8:05 PM

Ruth (Guest): And having to flee and become a refugee in Egypt just to stay alive and protect Him from an king hell-bent on destroying any potential competition for his throne!

Jul 22, 8:05 PM

Judy (Guest): It must have been to know how to discipline Him,if He needed such. There needed to be a balance between treating Him as a Divine Child and a human child.

Jul 22, 8:05 PM

Judy (Guest): Difficult to know.

Jul 22, 8:06 PM

Ruth (Guest): Still human persons, no matter how united in love they are are separate individuals.

Jul 22, 8:06 PM

Judy (Guest): That goes without saying.

Jul 22, 8:10 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 3: If St. Joseph had been at the cross, Jesus would not have entrusted His mother to John. And so when Joseph would eventually die, Jesus would not be there to give Mary to John’s care and she might have had to live alone.

Jul 22, 8:10 PM

Ruth (Guest): We say about marriage, the two shall become one flesh” and mean it. But it is not like being an embryo that turns into a person or persons with two heads or two bodies. Even when “siamese” twins are separated, and one receives organs vital to both, one dies. Because even with the best of care it is sometimes impossible for one of the twins to survive separation, some go all through life ALWAYS “joined at the _____ literally.

Jul 22, 8:11 PM

Dawn (Guest): I had to take call from my sister, reading what you both wrote but Im back now

Jul 22, 8:12 PM

Ruth (Guest): Judy, did you copy the question correctly?

Jul 22, 8:13 PM

Judy (Guest): The question reads: What is the significance of St. Jjoseph not being at the cross and St. John being at the cross and receiving mary as his mother from Jesus?

Jul 22, 8:14 PM

Dawn (Guest): I believe the significance is when Jesus told St John this is your Mother he was saying this to everyone for all

Jul 22, 8:15 PM

Judy (Guest): What about the significance of St. Joseph not being at the cross.

Jul 22, 8:15 PM

Ruth (Guest): Opps! Sorry. I see you were answering, not restating. I’m pretty sure that Joseph died before Jesus was crucified. Many art works even show that others think that: Jesus and Mary attending to a dying Joseph, who is considerably older than his wife.

Jul 22, 8:17 PM

Ruth (Guest): Dawn, that is a very good interpretation, I believe. It is the basis for our considering Mary to be OUR mother, each one of us and the mother of all of us as the Church.

Jul 22, 8:18 PM

Judy (Guest): To my knowledge, the concept that Joseph was considerably older than Mary has not be confirmed.

Jul 22, 8:20 PM

Dawn (Guest): Yes, how I understand Jesus told us. A beautiful gift. Thinking about Mary living beyond Jesus, she must have had a role with the disciples , in the forming of the very early church, being their Mother and also a disciple

Jul 22, 8:21 PM

Dawn (Guest): The Fathers perfect design.

Jul 22, 8:21 PM

Judy (Guest): Question 4: If we allow ourselves to be absorbed into Jesus thus being lost in Him, and allow Him to be absorbed by us, thus being filled with Him, so our union with Him becomes closer and our hearts become so much more cloself united with His. If we are so completely one with Him, then our hearts must be one also.

Jul 22, 8:22 PM

Ruth (Guest): May be so, Judy; what we know about him, or impute of him – as in the Litany of St. Joseph – is derived far more from his ACTIONS than from anything said directly about him of any words coming from his mouth. But some of the storied in the Gospel could not have been known to the disciples unless Mary told them.

Jul 22, 8:24 PM

Dawn (Guest): Ah! she played an important role in the forming of the church. and the Scripture...I had never thought of this Ruth

Jul 22, 8:25 PM

Judy (Guest): I am sure that a great deal of the information in Luke’s Gospel came from Mary. Only she would have known some of these things.

Jul 22, 8:25 PM

Ruth (Guest): And it is said that she was with the disciples at Pentecost AND helped encouraging some of the early Bishops – most of them martyrs. I even have a book (Kindle) that is a collection of the writings of the Church Fathers. A letter appears in it attributed (very likely falsely or we would have heard about it sooner) to Mary . . .

Jul 22, 8:26 PM

Dawn (Guest): What is the title of this book?

Jul 22, 8:27 PM

Dawn (Guest): I would be interested, maybe need to read

Jul 22, 8:28 PM

Dawn (Guest): I never thought of or knew Mary contributed, like in Lukes Gospel. Im happy to know this ! thank you both

Jul 22, 8:29 PM

Ruth (Guest): It is actually a collection of books, and not the best translations. I’ll message you.

Jul 22, 8:29 PM

Dawn (Guest): ok, thank you

Jul 22, 8:29 PM

Judy (Guest): May we strive to deepen our union with Jesus so that we might be truly one heart and one mind. Have a blessed week!

Jul 22, 8:30 PM

Dawn (Guest): You as well Judy. I hope PT goes well for you and Helps!

Jul 22, 8:30 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, Judy. Most Scripture scholars I’ve read agree that Mary told Luke about the birth stories and more.

Jul 22, 8:31 PM

Dawn (Guest): I am amazed!

Jul 22, 8:32 PM

Dawn (Guest): Thank you and God bless you both.

Jul 22, 8:33 PM

Ruth (Guest): Yes, even for Parkinson’s Disease PT can be very helpful. Do you have Parkinsonism in addition to MS? or is it a corrected diagnosis? Many years ago I was told by a doctor that I had MS – but he was wrong. I was also told that I had rheumatoid arthritis, like my mother, but that doctor was wrong, too; I have osteoarthritis.

Jul 22, 8:34 PM

Ruth (Guest): And I have a friend in Germany who was diagnosed with MS, but has not had any worsening of her condition over more than a decade; also, probably a wrong diagnosis.

Jul 22, 8:35 PM

Ruth (Guest): Oh, btw,

Jul 22, 8:37 PM

Ruth (Guest): Sr. Susan Marie did say she would be on retreat and probably not able to attend chat tonight. Kind of her to post the passage to consider and the questions in spite of being on retreat.

Jul 22, 8:37 PM

Ruth (Guest): I hope Carol Ann is OK; I wasn’t able to get back to her this week.

Jul 22, 8:38 PM

Ruth (Guest): Blessings to all of you! I wonder how Brian’s daughter is experiencing her visit to Columbia. Keeping all close in my prayers.
